Aim: To investigate the therapeutic effect of massage along pathway of the channel of traditional Chinese medicine on hypoplastic penis in obese male children. Methods: Totally 70 simple obesity male children, who were diagnosed at Department of Endocrine Pediatrics, Henan Maternal and Child Health Faculty between June 2001 and September 2003, were enrolled. They were randomly divided into massage plus rehabilitation treatment group (n=40) and rehabilitation treatment group (n=30). At the same time, 20 normal children of the same age, same height and body mass were involved. All the obese children were treated with microsoma penis therapeutic apparatus. Besides, those in the massage plus rehabilitation treatment group received massage at meridian of patients by pushing, kneading, doting and pressing, and stimulated at points of Weishu (BL 21), Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23), Shangwan (RN 13), Zhongwan (RN 12) and Xiawan (RN 10), for 30 minutes every day. At the same time, diet and exercise were guided for obese children. Height, body mass, size of penis were measured before and after treatment in the two groups. The levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), total testosterone (TT) and estradiol (E2) in serum were detected by radioimmunological assay. Results: All the children were involved in the result analysis. 1Levels of LH, FSH and E2 in serum of obese children were significantly higher than those in the normal children. The level of TT in serum was obviously lower than that in the normal children (P < 0.01). 2The penis became longer markedly in the massage plus rehabilitation treatment group and rehabilitation treatment group after treatment [(3.31±0.45), (1.64±0.52); (2.93±0.38), (1.61±0.41) cm;P < 0.01]. The increase of penis in the massage plus rehabilitation treatment group was longer than that in the rehabilitation treatment group (P < 0.01). 3The body mass decreased in the massage plus rehabilitation treatment group as compared with that before treatment, and there was significant difference [(65.32±9.22), (72.78 ±7.48) kg,P < 0.01]. Conclusion: Sexual development hysteresis may be associated with parasecretion of sexual hormone in obese male children. Combined with traditional Chinese medicine massage, the body mass of patients can be reduced remarkably and the penis of children patients can be lengthened.
