Objectives: We performed an interim analysis of MiLARC, a Society of Family Planning-funded, Web-based pilot intervention to increase acceptability and knowledge of LARC methods on college campuses, using Web site metadata to understand differences in user experience and engagement when the intervention was compared with a control Web site. Methods: MiLARC is an evidence-based intervention designed to address attitudes, misperceptions and knowledge of LARC methods among college undergraduates at a large midwestern university. A comprehensive survey of more than 2000 undergraduates and a qualitative study of campus stakeholders were used to develop intervention content. Our control Web site was adapted from an existing Web-based university resource. Using university registrar information, undergraduate women were randomly assigned to MiLARC or control groups. Google Analytics provided user traffic and behavioral flow data. Weighted (by number of sessions per day) means and proportions were compared using t tests and chi-square analysis. Results: MiLARC had 398 user sessions, and the control Web site had 421. Compared with the control, MiLARC had a higher average number of page views per day (459.6 vs. 196.7, p<.0006), longer average session duration (7:56 min vs. 2:07 min, p<.0018), longer average page session for LARC method content (2:26 min vs. 1:32 min, p<.9) and lower drop-off from the homepage (22.9% vs. 43.9%, p<.0001). Behavioral flow data suggested that MiLARC users were more likely to progress directly to LARC method content than control users (OR, 1.75; 95% CI, 1.31-2.34). Outcomes: With further evaluation, higher levels of engagement with the MiLARC Web site may translate into improved acceptability, knowledge and uptake of LARC methods on our campus.
