Gabapentin in the treatment of migraine

The aim of our study is to verify a possible use of Gabapentin in the prophylactic treatment of migraine with and without aura. Twenty five patients (6 M and 19 F) aged between 18 and 65 y. were recruited. The study was done in the open, it lasted 10 months (2 months of runin, 8 months of treatment). The recording through a diary paper let us to monitor the intensity and the frequency of crisis, in the two months before the beginning of the trial and in the following controls (1 month- 4 months- 8 months), the length of the crises, the use of the analgesic, the reconductable signs or symptoms or side effects of the drug were recorded. The dose of Gababentin was 600 mg. The effectiveness of the drug was statistically significative, even if the number of patients selected was exiguous. Of course at least in the doses used the drug had a good tollerability with modest and transitory side effects.
