Pediatric asthmaquality of life questionnaire (PAQLQ): quality of life asthmatic children in a poblacional sample of Lima

Objective: to evaluate the quality of life in the asthmatic children at steady state, 7-12 years of age, that were patients at the public health center ôPoliclinico San José Obreroõ of Barranco measured with the Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life questionnaire PAQLQ. Material and methods: the study has a descriptive design. We used a convenience sample, according to the inclusion criteria. Children of the sample obtained answered to the Standardized Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire(S) Interviewer Administered version, Spanish version for Peru. Results: a sample of 32 asthmatic children was obtained, 17 boys (53.1 per cent) and 15 girls (46.9 per cent). The quality of life of the asthmatic children is on average standard deviation (13.514). Women present higher levels of quality of life (Score=72.48 women, 69.34 men) and less dispersion of its data compared to the men (SD=11.308 women, 15.720 men). About the domains of the childrenÆs quality of life, activity limitation and symptoms were affected severely, meanwhile emotional functions were affected just mildly. Conclusions: the results obtained suggest diminished quality of the life of the pediatric patients of the sample, difference between both genders and affection of the quality of life. In conclusion, the results are not representative but are data base to raise future investigation of quality of life in pediatric asthma in Peru.
