Type of study: prospective, longitudinal, and observational. Objectives: to (get to) know the seroprevalence of HIV in pregnant women in labour and to determine their socio-demographic, diagnosis and treatment. Methodology: study made in the gyneco-obstetric Hospital “Enrique C. Sotomayor”, during the period from January to June in 2007. Population constituted by pregnant women in labour, with rapid tests for doubly reagent HIV. A direct survey was conducted among mothers and the laboratory results were obtained from the department of statistics. Results: out of the 11.520 patients admitted, 37 were reagents to the rapid test and 33 of them were doubly reagent. The 33 mothers received antiretroviral drug according to the situation. The socio-demographic profile was related in the majority of the patients. Conclusion: it was determined that out of every pregnant woman tested for HIV, 0.28 turned out to be HIV positive, the main way of transmission was sexually (most patients of this study are younger than 20 years old), have incomplete schooling; come from urban-marginal areas; had their first sexual relation before they were 20 years old, which made us think that family and our educational system exclude some important aspects for the society such as sexual education.
