Conducted a double-blind and crossover study comparing the effects of valpromide, at a dosage of 300 mg 3 times a day, and a placebo on vigilance and psychomotor performance. Ss were 29 healthy adult vounteers. The battery of tests included 5 self-rating scales (psychic tension, anxiety, drowsiness, psychic, and motor slowdown); 5 psychometric tests (3 of which were computerized) measuring attention, memory, and reasoning; 2 psychophysiological tests measuring visual and auditory reaction times and tremometry, and 1 realistic automobile driving test. The tests were performed before treatment, after 5 days of treatment with valpromide or the placebo, and after 7 days of wash-out. Study results showed no significant differences between valpromide and the placebo. (English abstract) (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
