The Aloe genera are medicinal plants comprising more than 300 species, used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. The objective of this study is to verify the use of Aloe species in the city of Pejuçara/RS. Data were collected through interviews in 62 households, in the urban area of the city randomly chosen. Collections were made with the aid of a structured, qualitative and quantitative questionnaire. The majority was female, with an income of two to three minimum wages and mean age of 30 years old. Regarding the educational level, 32.26% had completed high school, while 29.03% had incomplete primary education. All respondents knew Aloe, with the majority (90.71%) using it externally, while 59.67% used only if necessary. All individuals used the Aloe leaf and only 1.61% reported feeling any side effects during use. The interviews reported using Aloe mainly for treatment of skin problems such as burns and wounds, and also for use in hair, with cosmetic activity. We conclude, therefore, that further studies evaluating the use of Aloe to ensure safe and rational use, respecting traditional knowledge, are needed.
