Examined the effect of 10–20 mg of oral dextroamphetamine or placebo on plasma cortisol (PLC) level in 12 depressed inpatients (aged 27–64 yrs) acting as their own controls. Administration of dextroamphetamine was followed by either a greater fall or lesser rise in PLC than the change in level following placebo in 9 Ss. No relation was found between the changes in PLC and severity or allocation to endogenous or reactive category. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)
