This is a critical abstract of an economic evaluation that meets the criteria for inclusion on NHS EED. Each abstract contains a brief summary of the methods, the results and conclusions followed by a detailed critical assessment on the reliability of the study and the conclusions drawn. In the context of no additional benefit for the prevention of wound infections, or in the rate of wound healing for any of the three dressing products examined, dry absorbent dressings (DADs) were the most comfortable and cost-effective products for sternotomy wounds following cardiac surgery.
