Comparison of three different types of foot based physiotherapy interventions in healthy collegiate athletes: a randomized controlled trial

INTERVENTION: Intervention1: Whole body vibration and neuromuscular electrical stimulation combined with intrinsic foot strengthening exercises. Each session is of around 30‐45 mins. Three sessions per week, for 6 weeks. Control Intervention1: Intrinsic foot strengthening exercises: Intrinsic foot muscles strengthening exercise protocol that includes short foot exercises, arch raise exercises, plyometrics. Each session is of around 30‐45 mins. Three sessions per week, for 6 weeks. Total 18 sessions. CONDITION: PRIMARY OUTCOME: Foot mobility ; Electromyographic activity ; Change of direction ability ; Dynamic balance ; Timepoint: Pre ‐ session 1 ; Post ‐ session 18 ; (6 weeks) SECONDARY OUTCOME: Muscular strength ; ProprioceptionTimepoint: Pre ‐ session 1 ; Post ‐ session 18 ; (6 weeks) INCLUSION CRITERIA: University level players aged 17 to 30 years having at least 1 year of playing experience. Involved in sport‐specific training on at least 2 days per week for 6 months. No foot deformity present. Have not been injured in the lower limbs in the 6 months prior to the study. Normal BMI range â?? 18.5 â?? 24.9. Working knowledge of English language.
