Background: Brazilian Family Health Program was initiated in 1994 aiming to solidify SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde - Unified Health System), to reorganize the health system and to substitute the old health policy based on biological medicine. Many progresses have beenconquered since than. Though, many problems from the old system still persist. The care fragmentation and themedical specialized assistance still compromise the health practice. Continuous Education is an important strategy for the transformation of care and this practice will only reach significant learning when health workers get engaged in the changing process, mainly through the useof self analysis of their work process and practice. Objectives: Evaluate the medical work process in family health program in a city from Itajaí River Valley - SC, proposing strategies for continuous medical education. Methods: Qualitative research, using exploratory method with transversal data analysis. The direct observation of two physicians in family health programduring one week of their routine work was the privileged form for data collection, followed by analysis ofcategories. Results: We observed that the assistance is medical centered, specialized, with prevalence of hardtechnologies (diagnosis and medical orders). There is difficulty to incorporate soft technologies (bonding, interprofessionalism; team work and concerns about social problems) in their routine work. Conclusion: We suggest that the model of continuous education to this city should be centered in softtechnologies through the utilization of self analysis of working process, attempting to remodel the health practiceand creating professionals compromised with the construction and solidification of SUS.
