The nursing knowledge and care in relation to the newborn’s pain

Objective: To observe the knowledge and care of the nursing team in relation to the newborn’s pain (RN) and the action developed in the care to the RN with pain. Methods: transversal study with 39 professionals of theof nursing team a school hospital, São José do Rio Preto. They answered a questionnaire with questionsregarding pain in the newborn. Results: This team can recognize pain in the newborn by means of behavior and physiological changes; 79,5% and 20,5%, respectively. Face scale to detect the newborn’s pain was usedby 76.9%; actions performed toward pain was that 62% carried out pharma-cologic measures, and 38% non-pharmacologic measures to diminish pain in the RN. Conclusion: A change of thought in relation to the analgesia could be observed. The health professionals have been aware of the importance of treat pain in the neonate period.
