Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the lower extremities is a common postoperative complication in patients with thoracolumbar fractures, with an increasing incidence rate year by year. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), especially Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma, has shown unique advantages in preventing postoperative complications. The active components of Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immune-regulating, and antioxidant effects. In this study, we observed the clinical effect of Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma in preventing DVT of the lower extremities after lumbar internal fixation (LIF). We found that the coagulation function indices and hemodynamics in the observation group were significantly improved compared with the control group. The incidence of DVT in the observation group was significantly lower (10.00%). The active component of Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma, Quercetin, can accelerate blood flow, reduce blood stasis, and lower fibrinogen aggregation, effectively preventing DVT. Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma shows promise in reducing inflammation and promoting patient recovery.
