OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of rehabilitation training and acupuncture on neurological deficits and motor function in patients with ischemic stroke. METHODS: Eighty patients with ischemic stroke were randomly divided into a rehabilitation group and an acupuncture group. Based on different stages of hemiplegia recovery, the rehabilitation group received targeted rehabilitation training, while the acupuncture group received scalp acupuncture combined with body acupuncture. Both groups received treatment for 28 days. Clinical Neurological Deficit Assessment (NDS) and Functional Comprehensive Assessment (FCA) motor function scores were assessed before treatment, after 28 days of treatment, and at a follow-up meeting 56 days after treatment, and the results were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in NDS and FCA motor function scores between the rehabilitation group and the acupuncture group. At the follow-up meetings 28 days and 56 days after treatment, there were significant differences in NDS and FCA motor function scores between the two groups compared to before treatment. At 28 days post-treatment, there were no significant differences in NDS and FCA motor function scores between the two groups compared to pre-treatment levels. However, at the 56-day follow-up, significant differences in NDS and FCA motor function scores between the two groups were observed. The results indicate that both rehabilitation training and acupuncture can reduce the degree of neurological deficits and improve motor function in patients with ischemic stroke, with the rehabilitation training group showing a higher degree of recovery than the acupuncture group at the 56-day follow-up.
