OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy and adverse effects of the addition of bismuth subsalicylate to standard triple therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in HNERM. February-March 2012. METHODOLOGY: Experimental study of double-blind controlled clinical trial. They worked with 54 patients with Helicobacter pylori that were treated at the Gastroenterology Service HNERM of February-March 2012. Divided into two groups, 29 patients who were part of the experimental group to which were added bismuth subsalicylate and 24 placebo patients. Data were stored in a data collection sheet which is then processed in an Excel database and analyzed with SPSS v.20. We estimated the absolute and relative frequencies and bivariate plots of major study variables. We used the chi-square test; all statistical interpretation was performed with a significance level of 95 per cent. RESULTS: Mean age was 47±14.9 years, 66.7 per cent were female and 33.3 per cent were male. The place of origin indicates that 24.1 per cent are of Villa El Salvador, 22.2 per cent are from San Juan de Miraflores, 5.6 per cent are from Breña, Comas, San Martin de Porres, 3.7 per cent belong to Jesus Maria, La Molina, Villa Maria del Triunfo. Regarding medical history: 16.7 per cent had hypertension, 1.9 per cent diabetes mellitus, 5.6 per cent Hypothyroidism and 1.9 per cent adenohypophysis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma, Diabetes Insipidus. The breath test was applied in the group with bismuth subsalicylate and placebo group in which: most had a negative breath test in the experimental and control groups (89.7 per cent and 80 per cent respectively). Therefore the relative frequency with bismuth subsalicylate group is similar to the placebo group (p=0.319). In determining the best treatment received: 93.1 per cent said it was "good" in the group receiving bismuth subsalicylate and 6.9 per cent remained "indifferent", very similar results were in the placebo group which was 84 per cent...
