OBJECTIVE: To explore the application effect of comprehensive nursing based on the theory of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine on postoperative anal exhaust and gastrointestinal function recovery in patients undergoing abdominal surgery. METHODS: A total of 100 patients who underwent abdominal surgery at Yanggu County People's Hospital from August 2019 to August 2020 were selected. They were divided into a control group (n = 50) and an observation group (n = 50) by random number table method. The control group was treated with routine nursing, and the observation group was treated with comprehensive nursing based on the theory of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine. The anal exhaust time, recovery time of gastrointestinal function, incidence of complications and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The time of first anal exhaust and time of first defecation of the observation group were significantly earlier than those of the control group (both P < 0. 05). The time of abdominal distension and pain relief and the recovery time of gastrointestinal motility of the observation group were significantly shorter than those of the control group (both P < 0. 05). The incidence of complications in the observation group was 4. 00%, which was significantly lower than 20. 00% in the control group (P < 0. 05 ). The scores of nursing satisfaction (nursing awareness, nursing practice, infection control, nursing cooperation and nursing safety) of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P < 0. 05 ). CONCLUSION: The comprehensive nursing based on the theory of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine can shorten the recovery time of gastrointestinal function in patients undergoing abdominal surgery and prevent adhesive intestinal obstruction and other postoperative complications.
