Health state utility values for patients with type 2 diabetes in China: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This study performs a systematic review and meta-analysis to synthesize evidence on Health state utility values (HSUVs) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in mainland China, aiming to inform cost-utility analyses and chronic disease management strategies. A systematic search of five major databases was conducted up to April 2025, with the review reported in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, aiming to identify studies reporting HSUVs for patients with T2DM and related complications and comorbidities in China. Relevant HSUVs were extracted and the random-effects model was used for meta-analysis, and the quality of included studies was evaluated using a four-item tool adapted for assessing HSUVs studies. In total, 35 studies were included in the final analysis. The pooled HSUV for patients with T2DM was estimated at 0.867 (95 % CI: 0.841–0.894). The presence of diabetes-related complications and comorbidities markedly reduced utility values, with HSUVs ranging from 0.673 to 0.828. Among the various measurement tools, the EQ-5D-3L was the most commonly used instrument, and considerable variation in utility estimates was observed across different valuation instruments, ranging from a low of 0.725 obtained using the SF-6D to a high of 0.968 using the 15D.This study provides a comprehensive synthesis of HSUVs for patients with T2DM in China, offering policymakers a nuanced understanding of HSUV heterogeneity to support the development of more targeted and effective healthcare interventions. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
