The study titled “Politicization of Recruitment and Staff Performance in Ebonyi State Civil Service: A study of selected ministries”. The study aimed to determine the extent Godfatherism contributed to the deployment of incompetent staff in Ebonyi State civil service; examine the extent nepotism contributed to the appointment of ineffective staff in Ebonyi State Civil Service; examine the extent posting of staff based on party affiliation contributed to lateness and absenteeism of staff in Ebonyi State Service. The population of the study was 1407 which was reduced to a sample size of 311 using Taro Yamane formula. Data for the study were collected from primary sources and secondary sources. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency distribution tables, whereas Chi-squared statistical tool (x2) was used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study. Findings revealed that Godfatherism has contributed to the deployment of incompetent staff in Ebonyi State Civil Service; Hence, the study recommended that; there is need for the government to eschew godfatherism in the deployment of staff in Ebonyi State civil service; and there is need for the civil service commission to avoid nepotism in the appointment of staff in Ebonyi State Civil Service.
