Diabetes mellitus 2002 in the Czech Republic - Epidemiologic study

Analysis of actual laboratory and clinical findings was performed in a population sample of 3626 randomly selected diabetic patients in outpatient clinics in the Czech Republic. The results brought data on diabetes control, lipid concentrations, blood pressure values, or body mass indexes in examined groups of diabetic patients as well as on the presence of microvascular and macrovascular complications. In parallel, pharmacological treatment of diabetes, arterial hypertension and dyslipoproteinemias was evaluated for the first time in both types of diabetes. The study offers valuable epidemiological data on the actual state of diabetic patients in the Czech Republic which may be the source of information being essential for decision on treatment and preventive strategies.
