In a prospective randomized study 37 patients with isolated Grade II + III injuries of MCL were treated by 2 different conservative methods (Group A, 20 patients, immediate mobilization with Intrepid Brace - Group B, 17 patients, plaster-immobilization during 3 weeks). Associated damage to other structures was ruled out by MRI. Follow-up examination was at 3, 6 and 12 weeks. In Group A we found benefit after 6 weeks concerning muscular atrophy, stability and rehabilitation in sport. After 12 weeks no significant differences between the 2 treatment modalities were identified concerning stability, except that there was still a difference in muscle-situation. The Group A patients returned to work sooner. The results confirm, that isolated Grade II + III MCL tears can be treated successfully by immediate mobilization.
