OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical effect of acupuncture on chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS). METHODS: The63 patients with CFS were selected from January 2014 to December 2016 in the affiliated hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They were randomly divided into acupuncture group(n = 33) and western medicine group(n =30). The acupuncture group used Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation method to get acupuncture treatment. The western medicine group was treated with oral conventional nutrition support drugs,immune-enhancing drugs, sedative hypnotic drugs, etc. There were 30 days in one course of treatment. The patients in two groups were treated with 4 courses. The fatigue scale-14(FS-14) score and clinical effects of the two groups were observed and compared. RESULTS: After 4 courses, the FS-14 scores in both groups were lower than those before treatment(P < 0. 05) and the scores of acupuncture group was lower than that of the western medicine group, the difference had statistical significance between the two groups(P < 0. 05). The effective rate of acupuncture treatment was 81. 8%(27/33),which was significantly higher than 43. 3%(13/30) in western medicine group, the difference had statistical significance between the two groups(P < 0. 05). CONCLUSION: The clinical effect of acupuncture therapy on chronic fatigue syndrome is satisfactory, safe and reliable.
