INTERVENTION: This is a randomized, blinded, split mouth clinical pilot study. Fifteen patients who meet the eligibility criteria will be randomly allocated to both groups. Since this is a split mouth study, the intervention will vary according to the tooth to be extracted, thirty eight or forty eight. There will be two groups, the ozone group and the control group. Patients will be blinded to the groups to which each tooth belongs, for the respective extraction. Ozone group, fifteen patients who will receive the application of ozone gas in the alveolus after the extraction of the lower third molar. Control group, fifteen patients who will receive the simulation of the application of ozone gas in the alveolus after the extraction of the lower third molar. Pain parameters will be assessed in the immediate and mediate postoperative period using a specific scale. Edema and trismus will also be assessed on the fourth and seventh postoperative days CONDITION: Localized edema; Other muscle disorders R52.0 PRIMARY OUTCOME: It is expected to find a decrease in immediate and mediate postoperative pain, with a minimum variation of 5%, when patients undergo treatment in the ozone group, an assessment using the visual pain scale SECONDARY OUTCOME: It is expected to find a decrease in postoperative edema, at least 5%, when compared to the baseline measurement, a comparison using the standard of Ustün et al., (2003), when patients undergo treatment in the ozone group. It is expected to find a greater mouth opening in the postoperative period, when compared to pre‐surgical measurement, in patients undergoing treatment in the ozone group INCLUSION CRITERIA: Female and male patients, need of third molar extraction; regardless of gender; patients who have not used analgesics or anti‐inflammatories in the last 15 days; have teeth in opposing semi‐included or included hemi‐arches, meeting the same classification as Pell & Gregory (1933); aged between 18 and 30 years; who agree to participate in the research voluntarily, being aware of the risks and benefits, and sign the Free and Informed Consent Form (TCLE).
