Study on the Benefits of an Oral Probiotic - Lactobacillus plantarum 299v in Women Being Treated for Vaginal Yeast Infection

INTERVENTION: Intervention1: Oral Lactobacillus plantarum 299v: Participants will receive one oral capsule of the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum 299v 10 billion CFU per capsule once daily for 4 weeks as an adjunct to standard antifungal therapy Control Intervention1: Candid V3 containing 200 mg of clotrimazole per tablet: Participants will receive standard antifungal therapy with Clotrimazole vaginal tablet 200 mg once daily for 3 consecutive days, along with a matching placebo capsule, administered once daily for 4 weeks CONDITION: Health Condition 1: B373‐ Candidiasis of vulva and vagina PRIMARY OUTCOME: Clinical cure of vulvovaginal candidiasis ‐ complete resolution of clinical signs and symptomsTimepoint: will be done at Day 14 ‐ End of the Treatment SECONDARY OUTCOME: Global assessment of treatment efficacy by investigator and participantTimepoint: will be done at Day 14 Improvement in clinical symptoms like vaginal itching, burning, discharge, erythema, edema assessed using a symptom severity scoreTimepoint: will be done at Baseline Day ‐ 0, Day 7, and Day 14 Mycological cure ‐ negative KOH microscopy and or fungal cultureTimepoint: will be done at day 14 ‐ end of the treatment Recurrence of vulvovaginal candidiasis after successful treatmentTimepoint: will be done on Day 30 or 4 weeks after completion of therapy Safety and tolerability for any incidence and severity of adverse eventsTimepoint: will be done From baseline until the last follow‐up visit ‐ Day 30. Time to complete symptom reliefTimepoint: Throughout the treatment period up to Day 14 Treatment compliance or adherenceTimepoint: Throughout the treatment period ‐ Day 1 to Day 14 INCLUSION CRITERIA: ‐ Confirmed vulvovaginal candidiasis ‐ Willing to provide informed consent ‐ Willing to comply with study procedures
