[Feasibility study of bilateral thoracic paravertebral block for postoperative analgesia in patients after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of bilateral thoracic paravertebral block for postoperative analgesia in patients after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG). METHODS: Upon the approval of institutional Ethics Committee and informed consent, forty patients ASAII or III aged 52-77 yr with BMI (body mass index) 0.05) . Compared with group I, extubation time (5.5 ± 1.4 vs 7.1 ± 1.7) and residence time in ICU (17.3 ± 4.2 vs 21.4 ± 5.8) were shortened significantly in group P (P 0.05). The incidence rate of nausea in group P was significantly lower than in group I (5% vs 25%, P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Bilateral thoracic paravertebral block for postoperative analgesia could be used safely and efficiently and accelerate the cycle time in patients after OPCABG.
