INTERVENTION: E02.190.525.061 E02.190.599.750.750 Intervention Group 1: Fifteen nursing professors from a public university with at least a moderate level of anxiety (35 points from IDATE‐Estado) will receive six aromatherapy massages on alternate days (two weeks, three massages for week) that will last from 10 to 15 minutes each massage. The massage protocol consists of the use of smoothing distributed in linear movements applied in the posterior cervical and thoracic regions. The aromatic solution for the massage is based on neutral cream, where lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) was diluted 2%. Each participant will use by massage 10mL of aromatic cream. In addition to this procedure, before the beginning of each massage, participants will have checked oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic). The questionnaires that investigate the participants' anxiety and stress index will be applied before the first massage and after the sixth massage, at the end of the study protocol. Intervention Group 2 (active control): Fifteen nursing professors from a public university with at least a moderate level of anxiety (35 points from IDATE‐Estado) will receive six aromatherapy massages every other day (two weeks, three massages for week), lasting from 10 to 15 minutes each massage. The massage protocol consists of the use of smoothing distributed in linear movements applied in the posterior cervical and thoracic regions. The aromatic solution for the massage is based on neutral cream, where the essential oil of ylang‐ylang (Cananga odorata) was diluted in the concentration of 2%. Each participant will use by massage 10mL of aromatic cream. In addition to this procedure, before the beginning of each massage, participants will have checked oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic). The questionnaires that investigate the participants' anxiety and stress index will be applied before the first massage and after the sixth massage, at the end of t CONDITION: Anxiety ; F01.470.132 F01.470.132 PRIMARY OUTCOME: Expected outcome: decreased levels of anxiety verified by the application of the Trace‐State Anxiety Inventory ‐ State Subscale (nationally validated instrument) and evidenced by the shift to a less intense level of anxiety after six aromatherapy massage sessions. SECONDARY OUTCOME: Expected Outcomes: Decreased stress levels verified by applying the Stress Symptoms List (nationally validated instrument) evidenced by moving to a less intense stress level after six aromatherapy massage sessions. increase in the pulse saturation index verified with the aid of a pulse oximeter before and after each aromatherapy massage session. Decreased heart rate verified with the aid of pulse oximeter, before and after each session of aromatherapy massage. Decreased systolic blood pressure verified by an aneroid sphygmomanometer, before and after each session of aromatherapy massage. Decreased diastolic blood pressure verified by aneroid sphygmomanometer, before and after each session of aromatherapy massage. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Healthy volunteers; both genders; age between 18 and 65 years; working regularly in the sector (Botucatu Medical School and Botucatu Institute of Biosciences); consent to participate in the research by signing the Free and Informed Consent Form; achieve minimum score of 35 points in the State‐Trait Anxiety Inventory ‐ State Subscale; olfactory odor of lavender essential oils (Lavandula angustifolia) and ylang‐ylang (Canaga odorata); and declare that she is not pregnant.
