AIM: According to the criterion of single-disease-control, to compare thedifferent effect of the traditional Chinese medicine therapy and routinewestern medical therapy for mild cervical spondylotic myelopathy. METHODS: The experiment was conducted at the special out-patientclinic of cervical syndrome of Affiliated Longhua Hospital of Shanghai U-niversity of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2003 to January2004. Sixty patients with mild cervical spondylotic myelopathy were as-signed randomly into treatment group and control group by single blindprocedure with 30 cases in each group. The patients in the treatment group were treated with Yiqi Huayu Bushen decoction, including 18 g frying membranous milkvetch root, 9 g dipped tangshen, 9 g ginseng-madesanchi, 12 g big szechwan lvge rhizome, 12 g antler piece and 12 g fatcommon anemarrhena rhizome. Based on this prescription, drugs of Lishui, Shugan and Tongluo, etc. were increased or decreased extenuatorily, matching with dregs of drug to pave outside. The patients in the control group were treated with western medicine, 7.5 mg Mobike, once a day, taking orally, 0.5 mg Mikebao, three times a day, taking orally. The patients in the two groups were all treated for 4 weeks as a progress. The curative effects were evaluated according the “method of forty scores function”.Comprehensive index of single disease of cervical spondylotic myelopathy in the two groups was compared. RESULTS: Sixty patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy were all involved in the result analysis. The effective rates of the treatment group and control group were 66.7% and 53.3% at the 2nd week treatment, and the difference had insignificant meaning (t=1.227 1,P 0.05). After being treated for 4 weeks, the effective rate of the treatment group was 93.3%,and the effective rate of the control group was 60%, and had significant difference (t=2.757 8, P 0.05). At the same period of treatment, the cost of medication of each course had insignificant difference (t=0.001 2, P 0.05). Comprehensive index of single disease control showed that there was no difference of the cost of medication of each course in the two groups, while the curative effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group.CONCLUSION: It takes a period of time to treat the cervical spondylotic myelopathy. The treatment with Yiqi Huayu Bushen decoction can gain better curative effect.
