INTERVENTION: Intervention1: alternate day regimen: oral iron therapy is given to children every alternate day in mild to moderate iron defeciancy anemia based on WHO anemia cuttoff at 3mg/kg/day orally. serum hepcidin, ferritin, serum iron, UIBC, transferrin saturation and Hemoglobin are compared with daily regimen group. Control Intervention1: daily regimen group: oral iron therapy is given to children every day in mild to moderate iron defeciancy anemia based on WHO anemia cuttoff at 3mg/kg/day as per standard treatment guidlines. serum hepcidin, ferritin, serum iron, UIBC, transferrin saturation and Hemoglobin are compared with alternate day regimen. CONDITION: Health Condition 1: D50‐ Iron deficiency anemia PRIMARY OUTCOME: To compare the mean change in serum ; hepcidin concentration from baseline ; to 24 hours after initiation of oral iron ; therapy between daily and alternate ; day regimens.Timepoint: baseline that is before starting oral iron therapy and followed by 24 hours after starting oral iron therapy in both groups SECONDARY OUTCOME: To compare adverse effects and ; treatment adherenceTimepoint: during the entire course of treatment when ever it arises To compare hemoglobin rise from ; baseline to 8 weeks after therapy ; among both the groupTimepoint: baseline, that is before starting iron therapy followed by at 8 weeks after starting oral iron therapy in both groups. To compare serum ferritin, serum ; iron, UIBC and transferrin ; saturation that is iron profileTimepoint: baseline, that is before starting iron therapy followed by at 8 weeks after starting oral iron therapy in both groups. ; To compare serum hepcidin levels ; at 8 weeks between the two groupsTimepoint: at 8 weeks from starting of oral iron therapy in both groups To correlate serum hepcidin with ; ferritin and hematological ; responseTimepoint: at the end of the study INCLUSION CRITERIA: 1.children aged 1 to 15 years of age 2. mild to moderate iron defeciency anemia 3. WHO age specific heamoglobin below cuttoff level 4. serum ferritin less than 15 ng per ml or ferritin less than 30ng per ml with elevated crp
