A clinical trial comparing the effect of a mobile application-based physical activity program to usual care practices on the adoption and adherence to physical activity among Indian patients with hypertension

INTERVENTION: Intervention1: Mobile application based HTN care : A physiotherapist will install the application on the participants mobile phone which will deliver the intervention developed using International Society of Hypertension ‐ Global Hypertension Practice Guidelines. Participants will receive a structured exercise program as recommended by American college of sports medicine and American heart association. Participant will be encouraged to perform at home or community setting a walking program at moderate intensity for at least 5 days/week. Control Intervention1: Usual care: At the time of trial entry by a trained physiotherapist participants in addition to the clinical care will receive a single educational session on Hypertension self‐management which will be provided by utilizing a manual developed using International Society of Hypertension ‐ Global Hypertension Practice Guidelines. Participants will be recommended during the session to perform moderate intensity activity for at least 5 days per week at home or community setting as per the recommendation of American College of Sports Medicine and American Heart Association. CONDITION: Health Condition 1: I10‐ Essential (primary) hypertension PRIMARY OUTCOME: Physical activity adherenceTimepoint: 2nd week ; 4th week ; 6th week ; 8th week SECONDARY OUTCOME: Self‐management of hypertensionTimepoint: At time of trial entry ; 6th week ; 8th week Systolic and diastolic blood pressureTimepoint: At time of trial entry ; 6th week ; 8th week INCLUSION CRITERIA: Individuals with high SBPs (greater then or equal to 140 mm Hg) and/or DBPs (greater then or equal to 90 mm Hg)receiving treatment for HTN (adherent or not to the prescribed antihypertensive medication)and using an android based smartphone
