USE OF LASER THERAPY IN TOBACCO CESSATION

INTERVENTION: Intervention1: LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY: 1. Diode laser equipment (Low level laser) having following parameter will be used :‐ Power output ‐ 100 mW 2. Beam area ‐ 0.62cm2 3. Wavelength ‐ 660nm 4. Mode of usage ‐ continuous wave mode. 5. Energy delivered ‐ 7.2 joules percm2 per point per session 6. Method of usage is point probe (contact method) with protective eye wears. The laser will be focused on 4 points on the ear pinna. The contact points will be Fei on inferior concha, 6 Shenmen on triangular fossa, Jiaogan on antihelix, and Gan on superior concha of the tragus. The locations of these points on the external ear are standardized by the WHO . Duration of treatment with laser will be 40 seconds per point. Control Intervention1: Behavioural counselling: Behavioural counselling: The counselling intervention will be done by following a combination of the â??5Aâ?? framework .Strategy A1. Askâ??Systematically identify all tobacco users at every visit. Strategy A2. Adviseâ??Strongly urge all tobacco users to quit. Strategy A3. Assessâ??Determine willingness to make a quit attempt. Strategy A4. Assistâ??Aid the patient in quitting (provide counselling and medication). 0Strategy A5. Arrangeâ??Ensure follow‐up contact. Each participant will be counselled in one session per week for 4 weeks CONDITION: PRIMARY OUTCOME: 1.Cotinine level ; 2.Fagestorm ScaleTimepoint: 1.At baseline and one month postintervention. SECONDARY OUTCOME: 1. Extrinsic stains ; 2. Physical effects like irritability, tiredness calmness, anxiety craving ; unpleasant taste, headache, ability to concentrate and appetite on a 10‐point Visual Analogue Scale.Timepoint: 1.At baseline and one month postintervention. INCLUSION CRITERIA: 1.Participants should be current tobacco users with 2.low to moderate nicotine dependence. Participants who are self‐willing to quit tobacco.
