Control Program of Tuberculosis: A View from Health Workers

The National Tuberculosis Control Programs are constituted as the main element in tackling the disease. Objective: To analyze meanings of health workers on issues that affect the control of tuberculosis in Colombia municipalities Methodology: A qualitative approach carried out in the municipality of Tumaco during 2011-2012. Were made Semi-structured interviews with 13 health workers who worked in the program for TB control in the attached service institutions health (IPS) affiliate to the town of Tumaco (Nariño). Results: The programmatic aspects, health-disease-tuberculosis, humanized comprehensive care, they are relevant categories to achieve program goals. Contextual socioeconomic conditions may affect program. We highlighted the commitment of health professionals who participated in this study for TB control. It is necessary to strengthen support networks for patients. Conclusion: Although the program has strengths identified in the interviews of health workers, Efforts should be targeted in the transformation of the biomedical approach to a social approach that impacts social determinants and transcend an integral vision of human being
