This is a critical abstract of an economic evaluation that meets the criteria for inclusion on NHS EED. Each abstract contains a brief summary of the methods, the results and conclusions followed by a detailed critical assessment on the reliability of the study and the conclusions drawn. The authors concluded that cranberry prophylaxis does reduce the incidence of UTIs in women. They also noted that the placebo group had a lower incidence of UTIs than in the preceding year concluding that the increased fluid intake in the placebo fluid must have had a beneficial effect. They acknowledged that the cost per UTI avoided was high.
