Examined the effect of a Japanese herb, Shakuyaku-kanzo-to (TJ-68), on hyperprolactinemia, a common and disturbing problem in neuroleptic treatment. 20 male inpatients (mean age 57.1 yrs) diagnosed with schizophrenia and taking neuroleptics participated. TJ-68 was added to Ss' previous drug regime at a daily dose of 7.5 g for 4 wks. Plasma levels were measured before, during and after the experiment. Findings show that TJ-68 is effective in correcting neuroleptic-induced hyperprolactinemia.
