CRD SUMMARY: This review assessed alternatives to continuous proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment for gastrooesophageal reflux disease. The authors concluded that evidence supported on-demand PPI treatment of endoscopy-negative reflux disease, but there was less support for on-demand treatment of erosive oesophagitis. Incomplete reporting of review methods and limited information on study outcomes and results make the reliability of the conclusions uncertain.
