TeleWalk: A trial of telephone-based walking promotion in older adults

INTERVENTION: Study Intervention ‐ A combination of telephone‐based motivational interviewing and cognitive‐behavioural techniques (3‐month duration). CONDITION: Physical inactivity PRIMARY OUTCOME: (1) physical activity (as measured by the Auckland Heart Study Physical Activity Questionnaire) (2) health‐related quality of life (as measured by the SF‐36) SECONDARY OUTCOME: Falls and injuries are assessed via calendars completed prospectively by participants. INCLUSION CRITERIA: 1. Sedentary (i.e., participated in less than 30 minutes of physical activity on five or more days per week for six months or longer.2. Would be living in Auckland, New Zealand for at least 12 months from the time of their recruitment to the trial.
