PURPOSE: To evaluate the impact of video-assisted discharge education of day surgery patients on their perception of quality of discharge teaching and satisfaction with nursing care quality. DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial design was used in this study. METHODS: The researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial at a women's health clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, with 172 female patients undergoing day surgery. Participants were randomly allocated to an experimental group that received video-assisted education or a control group that received standard discharge instructions. The study used the Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale and the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire to collect data. FINDINGS: Patients who received video-assisted discharge education reported significantly higher perceived quality of discharge teaching and greater satisfaction with nursing care compared to the control group (P < .05). A significant positive correlation was found between perceived discharge teaching quality and satisfaction with nursing care (r = 0.742, P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: Video-assisted discharge education improves patients' perception of the quality of discharge teaching and satisfaction with nursing care in day care surgery settings. Integrating audiovisual discharge education into day surgery practice may enhance nursing care and patient outcomes.
