Introduction: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non invasive therapeutic approach in periodontal treatment. The major advantage of PDT is its Effect on periodontal bacteria's cell wall and preservation of other bacteria species, resulting in no resistant species. Aim of study: the aim of this study is to compare clinical outcome of scaling and root planing (SRP) and PDT in treatment of moderate to severe chronic periodontitis. Materials and methods: 52 teeth with probing depth (PD) ≥4mm in 21 patients with chronic periodontitis were inclused. In Each patient, at least two teeth with same PD randomly assigned to SRP and PDT and to SRP only. PD, bleeding on probing (BOP), and clinical attachment level (CAL) gain were recorded at baseline and 4,8,12 weeks after the treatment. The parameters analyzed statistically by paired T test and Tukey's test at a p value.
