To observe the effect of 10% chloral hydrate enema in pediatric PICC placement and explore its effect on nurses' psychological stress. Methods: 57 children with leukemia were randomly divided into an observation group (n=30) and a control group (n=27). The observation group received 10% chloral hydrate enema for sedation and hypnosis before placement. The control group received routine nursing care. Adverse reactions and success rates of PICC placement were observed in both groups, and the psychological stress of the nurses was compared. Results: During PICC puncture, the incidence of grade 2 bleeding was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05); the first-time placement success rate was higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05); and the nurses' anxiety scores were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Chloral hydrate enema sedation before PICC placement in children with leukemia can alleviate pre-puncture tension and anxiety, increase patient compliance, reduce bleeding, significantly reduce nurses' anxiety, and improve the first-time placement success rate.
