INTERVENTION: Behavioural F04.096.144 Intervention Group: 10 old people aged 65 years and over, moderate or severe dementia diagnosis and residents of a nursing home. They participated in multisensory stimulation program in a room developed for this purpose. There were be 24 sessions for three months, twice a week and thirty minutes per session. Interventions descriptions: The session is individual, the participants are presented to three environments: sensory garden (aromatic plants), vintage room (decoration 40, 50 and 60 decays) and light room (images projection). They are offered in these environments various visual, proprioceptive, olfactory and auditory resources for the free exploration of the old people. Control group: 10 elderly people aged 65 and over, moderate or severe dementia diagnosis, and residents of a nursing home. They were not participate in multisensory stimulation program. Participants Caregivers / informants: 6 technicians and nursing assistants, local staff to report on perceived changes in participants during the survey. CONDITION: C10.228.140.380 Dementia; Depression; Health of the Institutionalized Elderly ; C10.228.140.380 ; F01.145.126.350 ; SP2.006.047.063 F01.145.126.350 SP2.006.047.063 PRIMARY OUTCOME: Improvement of behavior, such as apathy, restlessness and irritability to an engaged and communicative behavior, through observation records applied with the caregiver in the nursing home.; ; Data collected over a period of three months, before and after the end of the intervention program. Improvement of mood, such as labile, dysphoric, irritable to a euthymic / neutral mood, through observation record with formal caregiver in the nursing home.; ; Data collected over a period of three months, before and after the end of the intervention program. Improvement of the interaction in nursing home, such as none or few to regulate and much and communication with the caregiver (little, verbal aggression to regular or speaker), through observation record with formal caregiver in the nursing home.; ; Data collected over a period of three months, before and after the end of the intervention program. Improvement of the interaction with the intervention group inside the multisensory environment, such as angry or apathetic behavior to relaxed and happy, punctuated through the observation of facial expression, body language and verbal and non‐verbal communication, through observation records.; ; Data collected during each sensory session. SECONDARY OUTCOME: Decreased heart rate and blood pressure by means of an automatic measuring device. Data collected at the beginning of the session and after thirty minutes of multisensory stimulation. Improvement of behavioral changes and humoral symptoms by reducing the score of the standardized instruments "Neuropsychiatric Inventory and Brazilian Version of the Cornell Scale of Depression in Dementia" applied with the caregiver. ; ; Data collected over a period of three months, before and after the end of the intervention program. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Old people; over 65 years old; both gender; diagnosis of moderate or severe dementia, confirmed or not with depression as a secondary diagnosis; residents of a long‐term institution. Formal caregivers of the nursing home, that old people live.
