Flupentixol (INN), also known as flupenthixol, is a first generation (FGA), typical antipsychotic drug of the thioxanthene class. Main use is as a longacting injection given once in every 2 or 3 weeks to patients with schizophrenia. It is also used in low doses as an antidepressant. The efficacy in treatment of psychoses was established in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, and maintenance studies. As a high-potency antipsychotic acting as D2 receptor antagonist, it tends to produce significant extrapyramidal side effects. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
