In pediatrics, respiratory infections are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Sinusitis is a common entity in children caused by viral infections and bacterial superinfection. Some germs have been diminishing by the immunization programs that health policies have established in the country. However, the diagnosis is based on clinical criteria and is based on risk factors to which the population is exposed. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. It included 441 patients between 1 and 17 years old. They were classified into three ethereal groups the first group attended the external consultation of the Hospital IEES Ambato during January 2014 and December 2015 with a clinical course shorter than 30 days and met the inclusion criteria. Various variables were analyzed, and clinical criteria for a presumptive diagnosis of bacterial sinusitis was proposed for the empiric antibiotic treatment. The prevalence of sinusitis was higher in the age group 4 to 10 years (60.8%), who also showed an IgE elevation (69.40%), pre-suming an arousal of atopic expression secon-dary to exposure to volcanic ash. Major and mi-nor criteria were obtained by age groups, mainly finding nasal obstruction (89.4%), cough (86.7%), headache and nocturnal snoring. In ad-dition, S. aureus, S. Cuagulasa Negative, M, Ca-tarralis, H. influenzae type III were isolated in cultures of middle meatus swab, germs that showed sensitivity to conventional antibiotics; the presence of beta-lactamase-producing Mo-raxella, as well as pneumococcus, pseudomonas were occasional findings.
