Participatory workshop Agenda 2030 for key stakeholders. Case of Los Cabos International Destination, Mexico

Abstract Education for Sustainable Development acts as a bridge between theory and practice. Higher Education Institutions contribute to the training of key actors through awareness-raising, diagnostic processes, and the development of tools for best practice management. This study aimed to develop a participatory workshop, "Agenda 2030 and Key Stakeholders," to raise awareness and diagnose performance indicators among key stakeholders in an international tourist destination: Los Cabos, Mexico. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive and explanatory scope. First, the participatory workshop was designed and conducted in a face-to-face format. Thirteen relevant actors from the social, private, and governmental sectors of the tourism destination participated. The participants validated the effectiveness of the methodology used in raising awareness of organizational sustainability and its relation to 85 performance indicators, linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The diagnosis identified SDGs 5, 10, and 17 as priority areas, while SDGs 2 and 7 emerged as areas of opportunity. It was concluded that the participatory workshop is an effective strategy for promoting understanding and implementation of the 2030 Agenda within the local tourism sector, while also providing a diagnostic perspective of both the organizations involved and the sector as a whole. These initiatives foster dialogue, reflection, collaboration, and the promotion of best practices toward sustainable tourism within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
