OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture based on syndrome differentiation in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. METHODS: Eighty patients with primary dysmenorrhea admitted to Jiangmen Central Hospital from September 2012 to September 2014 were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 40 patients in each group. The control group received oral ibuprofen, while the observation group received acupuncture treatment based on different symptoms. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was observed and compared. RESULTS: The total effective rate in the observation group was 90.2%, while the total effective rate in the control group was 80%. The difference between the groups was statistically significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture based on syndrome differentiation in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea can effectively improve clinical efficacy and has high safety.
