Conducted a secondary analysis of data gathered on 200 elderly residents (aged 60–95 yrs) of Jerusalem to study the relationship of social network structure and social support to self-rated health. Perceived social support was a more important predictor of health than were measures of network structure. Further, the relation between support and health was a function of the relation between support and both psychological state and functional status.
