Spiritual care is recognized as fundamental in the care of patients in Intensive Care Units, contributing to a better quality of life and experience of care. This Integrative Literature Review aims to explore how nurses understand and address the spiritual needs of patients, identifying strategies, barriers and perceptions about the importance of spiritual care in clinical practice. The process of applying two filters in the databases resulted in a selection of 06 studies, published between 2019 and 2024. There was variation in the perception of competence of two nurses, with some trusting in their abilities, while others recognized the need for training and support. The main barriers include the lack of specific training and adequate resources, as well as cultural and religious challenges. It is concluded that strengthening training is crucial to effectively address the spiritual needs of patients, promoting a more integrated and humanized approach to care.(AU)
