Facelift surgery in post-bariatric surgery patients

INTERVENTION: Control: facelift surgery was performed without plicature (deep suture of the tissues of the face to improve skin pull) of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system of the face in 15 post‐bariatric patients. Intervention: facelift surgery was performed with plicature of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system of the face in 15 post‐bariatric patients. Type of surgery was assigned at random in the beginning of the study. E02.218.765 CONDITION: E02.650.500.062 Skin Aging PRIMARY OUTCOME: Expected outcome 1:; No significant difference in self esteem variation (pre and post‐operative) is to be expected when comparing post‐bariatric patients submitted to rhytidoplasty with and without superficial musculoaponeurotic system plicature. ; Expected outcome 2:; Rhytidectomy surgery with plicature is expected to be better evaluated by an attending plastic surgeon in relation to the one without plicature in the post‐bariatric patient. Observed outcome 1:; There was no difference between control and intervention groups in regard to self‐esteem variation before and after surgery. Observed outcome 2:; Patients in the intervention group received better scores for satisfactory aesthetic results, after evaluation by five attending plastic surgeons with more than 5 years of experience in the field. SECONDARY OUTCOME: Secondary outcomes are not expected. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Female patients; aged between 40 and 70 years‐old; post‐bariatric surgery; with stable weight for at least 3 months; presenting with complaints of rhytidosis and skin sagging in the face.
