The study assessed how the regulatory setting affects Small and Medium Enterprises' (SMEs) in Ebonyi State. It specifically sought to: Examine the effect of business registration on income and evaluate the effect of tax policy on the output of SMEs in Ebonyi State. A survey research design was used. The group studied included selected registered SMEs in Ebonyi State, across agriculture, manufacturing, trade, and service industries. Data was gathered using a questionnaire. According to SMEDAN (2024), there are about 5,000 registered SMEs in the state, which made up the study population. A sample of 350 SMEs was used. 311 respondents completed and returned the questionnaire correctly. The data was analyzed using frequency tables, and Z-test statistics were used to test the hypotheses. The results showed that business registration had a positive impact on income, Z(11.637, P = < .05), and tax policies had a positive impact on the output of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ebonyi State, Z(10.774, P = < .05). The study determined that business registration and tax policies had a positive impact on income and the output of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ebonyi State. It is suggested that the Ebonyi State government make the business registration process easier for SMEs by making sure it is fast, cheap, and easy to access. This would convince more business owners to make their businesses official, build trust with customers, make it easier to get money, and ultimately increase income for SMEs.
