Systematic evaluation of acupuncture for hyperthyroidism

Objective: To analyze the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture and Western medicine in the treatment of hyperthyroidism. Method: Electronic retrieval of a clinical randomized controlled trial of acupuncture in CNKI, CBM, VIP, WF and PubMed, supplemented by manual retrieval as of 28 May 2017. Risk assessment tool for literature quality evaluation , Meta analysis using RevMan5.0 software. Results: 6 randomized controlled trials, 629 subjects were included. Meta analysis showed: acupuncture control for hyperthyroidism, differences were not statistically significant; Acupuncture was superior to Western medicine at 6 months of treatment; Regulation of serum TSH levels, Needles Conclusion: Acupuncture is superior to Western medicine (P<0.05). There is no significant advantage in the treatment of hyperthyroidism, but better forward efficacy, less adverse reactions, and more high-quality randomized controlled trials are required for further validation.
