This is a critical abstract of an economic evaluation that meets the criteria for inclusion on NHS EED. Each abstract contains a brief summary of the methods, the results and conclusions followed by a detailed critical assessment on the reliability of the study and the conclusions drawn. The implementation of a school clinic programme for adolescents suffering from mild to moderate asthma was not a cost-effective strategy in comparison with standard care provided in a general practice setting. The intervention did not lead to improvements in disease or quality of life. Better process outcomes were observed, but there was also an increase in the total costs.
