Different delivery models and different periods of cesarean section influence children’s sensory integration capability

OBJECTIVE: To assess the influence of different delivery modes and different periods of cesarean section (CS) on children’s sensory integration. STUDY DESIGN: A cohort consisting of 10,000 children was included in this study. Among those children, there were 5,000 births by vaginal delivery, 2,500 by planned CS, and 2,500 by induced CS. The sensory integration capacity was measured by using the Sensory Integrative Function Scale and Conners Teacher Rating Scale. RESULTS: From the analysis results, we found that the rate of sensory integration dysfunction was significantly increased in the children born by CS as compared with those born by vaginal delivery (p<0.05) and was similarly higher in the planned CS group than in the induced CS group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated that sensory integration dysfunction could be decreased in the births by vaginal delivery and induced CS. There is a positive role in improvement of sensory integration capability by reducing the rate of CS.
