Treated 13 manic patients with lithium carbonate and 10 manic patients with chlorpromazine in a double-blind, randomly selected drug trial. Lithium carbonate proved superior to chlorpromazine on all 6 parameters selected from an objective rating scale. The problems militating against a valid research trial utilizing these medications in this type of patient are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
